Artist Statement:

This series explores perspectives of life in Ireland, its history, traditions, and hopes. I walked around the streets of Dublin and took photographs along the way during my usual walks. What I found were not side streets and rooftops, but snapshots of beauty and sincere vibrant life. This is an authentic view of Dublin. I do not romanticize or appropriate what I see, I try to provide an authentic interpretation of real places, history and feelings, leaving the rest up to the imagination of the viewer.
I was particularly interested in local favourite restaurants and establishments, now derelict and covered in graffiti, dust, and the impact of passersby. The separate physical textures allowed me to juxtapose glazed sections with rough sections, creating visual interest. I applied the graffiti by hand with a glaze pencil.
Another piece where I used the same production process is called Dublin Skyline, adapted in both ceramic and bronze. It shows the old Dublin Georgian rooftops and chimneys cast against an open skyline, with views of the clouds and three seagulls flying away. I created a plaster mould of the scene from a clay slab. I felt that this composition was particularly strong, so I adapted it to the lost wax process and cast it in bronze as part of a triptych called Sky, Water, Earth, 2025.
