OBJCT/SENSE, Digital/Print Booklet, 2021

Artist Statement:

This project encompasses my final year in OCAD University, graduating in the year 2021. It covers several projects related to the human body, to robotics, sound frequency and resonance, the effect on the body, and human experience. Each spread is related to a sensory feeling including; sight, hearing, touch, smell, and taste.

The book started as a digital spread document, then was later printed as a physical book with covers.

Front Cover Design
Taste, illustrated through an Illustration I made of a tracheotomy in relation to how smoking cigarettes affects your sense of taste.
Sight, Reject sight. I created this because I felt that each other sense was depicted visually and we are using our sense of sight to see all of these. The idea was that we should not only use our sight to appraise art but in conjunction with internal feeling and the other senses.
Feeling, represented through a project I created in 2018 which employed resonant frequencies that cause nausea in greater intensity depending on how close you stood to a laptop/screen.
Front and Back covers
Smell, how I imagine what smelling looks like visually – a blend of puzzle pieces fitting into a predetermined sensory zone, melding together and distorting over time.
Hearing, represented through a digital image I created that plays on how the inner ear controls spatial awareness.
